Sorry Richard, it wasn't the kiting tree incident...
Climbing in the Caucasus in '94, my climbing partner mistakenly set off a rock fall above me, I couldn't get out the way due to being attached to a piton, but managed to swing as a fridge sized rock as it passed over me, slicing off parts of my glove. No harm done, but absolutely scared stiff. Real turning point for me as I realised the mountains always win and that actually young guys aren't invincible.
Oh, and not forgetting when my wife (to be) told me she was pregnant whilst I was 4000 aways miles in Tadjikistan on a sat phone...
